PERSONAL PROFILE

POSITION SUMMARY

The incumbent will be responsible for the management and supervision of payroll personnel involved in payroll processing, reconciliation of the payroll controls, reporting on HR and labour statistics as well as liaise with external stakeholders. The person will further be responsible for preparing labour budgets and reporting on labour costs for the corporation.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.Com Degree, majoring in Human Resources or Accounting
  • Certificate/Diploma in Payroll Management will be an added advantage

EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE

  • Minimum of 5 years payroll or financial work experience
  • Working knowledge of Unique, SAP or related systems

LEGAL REQUIREMENT

  • Must have valid driver’s licence -  own transport

SPECIAL SKILLS

  • High level of computer literacy, especially in Excel
  • Well developed interpersonal communication ability
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Innovative ideas to improve processes and procedures

PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES

  • May be required to work overtime from time-to-time
  • Must be presentable and should be able to interact with staff at all levels, including Executive Management

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Leading and managing a team of +/- 10 people
  • Ensuring set deadlines are met
  • Ensuring accurate in and  output in preparation of payroll
  • Maintenance of internal control procedures
  • Preparation of accurate labour budget and labour reports

REPORTING STRUCTURE

  • The successful incumbent will report to the Unit Manager, Remuneration and Benefits

Role Description: Purpose Statement

This role researches, recommends and executes best and integrated practice in a specified field. Develops and monitors application of supporting processes.  This role is responsible for the execution and coordination of various aspects of remuneration and benefits, including but not limited to annual salary reviews, package structuring, remuneration consulting, remuneration reporting, market and benchmarking surveys and ad-hoc remuneration projects.

Key Result Areas

  • Preparation, analysis and co-ordination of the annual salary review process
  • Keep abreast of incentives and benefits, developments in the SA market by conducting competitor company research and participating in and analysing remuneration survey results
  • Participate in local salary surveys by submitting salary information to providers and understanding reports
  • Use presentation skills to present pay information to employees including senior and executive management
  • Operationalise remuneration and benefit practices
  • Provide technical expertise on remuneration and benefits practices.
  • Draft, maintain and implement general and specific communications to stakeholders
  • Provide technical expertise regarding payroll impacts of remuneration and benefits
  • Play a consultative role with regard to systems enhancements that affect practices
  • Engage the services of Audit, HR Data and HR Operations, where necessary
  • Effective and efficient dealing with queries and follow up

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification
  • Minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience preferably in the financial services sector
  • A GRP qualification will be advantageous
  • A high level of numeracy and quantitative ability together with an understanding of business dynamics
  • The candidate should be computer literate with a high level of competence in MS Excel        
  • Ability to engage professionally with clients at all levels

TRAINING PROVIDED:

Cummins standard training for new employees, and specific training, including Cummins’ Information Technology Project Management methodology (ITPM). Working with full time project managers the successful candidate will gain a significant insight into Cummins project management methods and being involved in IT infrastructure and application deployment projects will gain invaluable exposure to delivering IT solutions that meet business needs.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Degree complete or in process preferably in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or equivalent
  2. Ability to learn, analyze, and understand business and technical processes

Qualifications, competencies, knowledge and experience required:

  • A relevant 3 year degree or equivalent NQF Level 5
  • A valid driver’s license – Code B
  • 3-5 years HR experience, with strong analytical and numeric ability and interest
  • A flair for Information Systems is critical as well as a sound understanding of HR policies and procedures.  Exposure to SAP will be a distinct advantage.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information verbally as well as in written format.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle varying workloads with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality.
